Alvernia helped Wayne’s career go to the dogs. And he’s very grateful for it.
After graduating with a major in criminal justice, Wayne joined the West Reading Police Department. Since 2003, Wayne has been the department’s K-9 handler. He and his current partner, Fox, work together in drug detection, tracking and apprehending criminals, missing person searches and crowd control. When Fox lets him off his leash, Wayne also processes and documents crime scene evidence.
“Alvernia gave me a glimpse of my future,” says Wayne. “I had course material that was relevant to my career goals. Alvernia went a step further and allowed me to participate in lectures, field trips and hands-on work experience that all related to my current job.”
“I had an internship with the Pennsylvania State Police, too, that helped me experience detective work, patrols, evidence collection—and, of course, paperwork.”
