Alvernia prepares students for successful careers and to become engaged citizens by integrating an emphasis on ethics, principles, and social justice that flows from our Franciscan heritage. Service to others is deeply embedded in our Franciscan heritage and remains an important part of our educational mission.
Alvernia students are involved in service projects with our community-based partner organizations, which operate food banks, run mentoring programs, improve the environment, promote social justice, and support other important causes.
Alvernia embraces service learning for what it does for others and for what it can do for you as a student. We emphasize the education of the whole person and encourage you to discover a sense of self and a strong work ethic as to fully develop every student’s unique gifts.
Through the Alvernia experience, our students learn about a worldview that sees God as overflowing goodness. Such a way of being and doing invites all members of the Alvernia community to see every human person as God sees them. Once we see the needs of other people our students are eager to participate in numerous days of service and to grow into what God has made them to be.
