Alvernia University and the Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation are expanding a partnership to support adult women pursuing undergraduate degrees. The Newcombe Foundation is doubling grants to $10,000 for immediate scholarship use and $10,000 endowment challenge, for a total of $20,000 available in 2017-18. Alvernia University will match the funds for both the scholarship and endowment challenge.

Women are eligible for the Newcombe Foundation undergraduate scholarships if they are over age 25, have completed 60 credits with an academic average of at least 2.50, and have demonstrated financial need.

The Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation is an independent foundation that began in 1979, and has since awarded more than $63 million to provide scholarships and fellowships in higher education. Newcombe Scholarships for Mature Women Students support completion of bachelor's degrees by women who are twenty-five years of age or older who need financial assistance at selected colleges and universities. During 2015-16, Newcombe Scholarships averaging $2,858 were awarded to 665 students at twenty-nine colleges and universities.
