SIFE is a global nonprofit organization active in more than 40 countries, funded by financial contributions from corporations, entrepreneurs, foundations, government agencies and individuals. Working in partnership with business and higher education, SIFE establishes student teams on university campuses.

These teams are led by faculty advisors, and they are challenged to develop community outreach projects that reach SIFE's five educational topics: Market Economics, Success Skills, Entrepreneurship, Financial Literacy, and Business Ethics.

Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) is an international collegiate organization on more than 1,500 college campuses worldwide.  SIFE students provide educational outreach projects that help individuals in their communities develop a better understanding of the principles of free enterprise and how to empower themselves to achieve their dreams.

Mission

Support economic growth in the Reading community by building business competence and by spreading hope among the students of the City of Reading.

We will make a difference by helping all realize students that no matter what their circumstances, they have natural skills and talents that are valuable in the marketplace, given the proper guidance and education.

Projects

Olympic Day

Southern Reading Middle School - The Sports Management Program
Sports are one of the greatest interests for children of any age.  Our goals with this program are to teach children about how the “business” of sports actually works and to get many of them excited about the wide range of opportunities that the world of professional sports offers.  The children of Reading Southern Middle School will be learning the fundamentals of Sports Management by developing and implementing an “Olympic Day” athletic competition among all the middle schools in Reading.  This program was highly successful when introduced by us two years ago. As before, a group of 30 children meet with SIFE team members for 90 minutes every Thursday afternoon for 10-12 weeks.  Each week a new guest speaker talks about a new subject focus.

Reading High School – Career Fair
The SIFE team will be conducting a resume building workshop for the students as well as holding mock interviews with the students to allow them to gain experience with the interviewing process. Following the workshop, we will host a Career Fair with our SIFE team and a number of local business representatives.

Business Plan in Action Project
The SIFE team offers free business consulting to a struggling small business. The SIFE team will thoroughly analyze the business’ financial reports and inventory and implement a new business structure. The goal of the project is to improve the business by making it more efficient and productive.
