University president recognized for continued leadership and regional impact
Alvernia University President Glynis A. Fitzgerald, Ph.D., has been named to the Lehigh Valley Business 2025 Power 100 list, marking the second consecutive year she has been honored as one of the region’s most influential leaders.
The Power 100 list recognizes individuals who shape communities and influence the quality of life in the Greater Lehigh Valley. Honorees are selected for their leadership, commitment to service and impact on the region’s economic and civic vitality.
“I am honored to be included among the distinguished leaders in Lehigh Valley Business’ Power 100 list,” said Fitzgerald. “This recognition reflects the collective efforts of the Alvernia community to advance our mission and make a positive impact throughout the region.”
Fitzgerald began her tenure as the eighth president of Alvernia University on July 1, 2023, becoming the first female layperson to lead the institution in its 66-year history. A lifelong educator and seasoned administrator, Fitzgerald previously served as the university’s senior vice president and provost for four years and held several academic leadership roles at Central Connecticut State University, including associate vice president of academic affairs and dean of the School of Graduate Studies. She holds a doctorate and master's degree in organizational communication from SUNY Buffalo and a bachelor's degree in speech communication from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.
During her presidency, Fitzgerald has guided the university through a period of strategic transformation, assisting in the undertaking of the university’s largest philanthropic campaign, Partners in Progress, while championing student success initiatives like the SOLAR initiaitive and expanding Alvernia’s innovative CollegeTowne model of community revitalization and academic expansion.
In alignment with Alvernia’s Franciscan mission, Fitzgerald continues to foster a culture of care, innovation and inclusive excellence across all university locations.
